چکیده

The localization of adrenergic and cholinergic nerves in normal and denervated cat hearts was studied histochemically. The norepinephrine content of atria and ventricles was chemically determined by a spectrofluorometric method. In hearts denervated 9 to 42 days, little or no norepinephrine was detected. Histochemically, many catecholamine-containing fibers were present in the atria and ventricles of normal cats, whereas in denervated cats there were none in one and very few in four. There were many cholinergic nerves in the atria and a small to moderate number in the ventricles. The left atria of denervated hearts showed a marked reduction in cholinergic nerve fibers. It is concluded that cardiac denervation by mediastinal neural ablation is often incomplete. When norepinephrine is not detectable by chemical analysis, individual nen'e fibers not sectioned can still be histochemically identified. ADDITIONAL

Synthesis, Binding, Release, and Metabolism of Norepinephrine in Normal and Transplanted Dog Hearts.

• The ability of several tissues, including the heart, to make, bind, store, release, and inactivate norepinephrine has been the subject of numerous recent investigations. Implicit in most of these studies is the idea that these processes are occurring largely, if not exclusively, within adrenergic nerves. It appeared possible to determine what part neural tissue plays in the handling of norepi...

The effect of hydro-alcoholic extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra on the cardiovascular system of male rats with normal blood pressure and its interaction with cholinergic and adrenergic systems

Introduction: Glycyrrhiza glabra (Licorice) has been traditionally used as a medicinal plant in Iran for treatment of diseases such as gastric ulcer and arthrosclerosis. In this study, in order to determine some of its mechanisms, effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra was examined on the blood pressure in rats. Methods: Adult male rats were anesthetized via injection of pen...

Autonomic nerves in rectum and colon in Hirschsprung's disease. A cholinesterase and catecholamine histochemical study.

The autonomic nervous system innervates normal bowel in a complicated manner. Study of these nerves has been facilitated by histochemical techniques which enable separate identification of adrenergicand acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-containing nerves. The latter are usually considered to be cholinergic, and while their presence in the muscle layers of the bowel wall is well known, little attentio...

Effect of nitric oxide modulation on the basic and rate-dependent electrophysiological properties of AV-node in the isolated heart of rabbit: The role of adrenergic and cholinergic receptors

Introduction: Recent studies showed that nitrergic system have specific modulatory effects on electrophysiological properties of atrioventricular (AV) node. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of nitric oxide (NO) on the electrophysiological properties of isolated rabbit AV node and to investigate the role of adrenergic and cholinergic receptors in the mechanism of its action...
